How Parents Preview works

Parents Preview is a neutral parental media intelligence tool. It tells you what is in an episode — factually, without deciding for you whether that content is good or bad. All episode-level analysis currently in the product is demo sample data.

Three steps

1. Choose the topics that matter

Pick the awareness categories your household cares about, then refine them per child. Nothing is preset for you, and no category is treated as good or bad.

2. Look up a title

Search a show and open a season. Every episode gets a Clear / Mild / Moderate / Strong indicator calculated only from the categories you selected.

3. Read the episode notes

Each flagged item explains factually what appears, whether it is referenced, discussed, or depicted, roughly when it happens, and how confident the analysis is.

Where the data comes from

Today every show, episode, flag, timestamp and confidence percentage in Parents Preview is demo-based sample data. The titles are fictional and were written to demonstrate the product. Nothing shown is a real-world verified rating, and none of it is sourced from a studio, streaming service, regulator or ratings board.

The production pipeline this demo models has three stages: automated transcript and scene analysis produces a first pass, parent community reports add context, and editorial review verifies items. Confidence percentages describe how far along that path an item is — Verified (90–100%), Supported (70–89%), Automated (below 70%).

How your filters control what's shown

Your selections drive every traffic light

An episode's level is the highest severity among the categories you highlighted. Deselect a category and it stops affecting the summary immediately.

Unselected topics are still visible, never hidden

Items you did not select appear as "present but not selected" so you always know something is there — they just don't change your match status.

Each child has their own filter set

Profiles keep separate categories and watchlists, so the same episode can read differently for a 7-year-old and a 13-year-old. The comparison view shows exactly why.

Level and confidence filters narrow the list

Traffic-light chips filter episodes to the levels you want, and the confidence slider hides low-confidence items per child. These filters live in the URL so a filtered view can be shared.

Our principles

We describe, we don't judge

Every note is a factual description of what appears on screen. We never say content is good, bad, appropriate, or harmful.

Parents decide what matters

You choose which categories are highlighted for your household and for each child. Categories you don't select stay out of your way.

Identity is never treated as a warning

LGBTQ+ identity, religion, race, disability, and similar characteristics are never framed as harmful. We only record explicitly established themes or references so parents who selected those topics can see them.

Theme is not sexual content

A stated relationship or identity is logged as a theme or reference. Depicted or implied sexual activity is a separate category with its own severity.

No inference about people

We never infer protected traits. If a trait isn't explicitly established in the fictional content, it isn't recorded.

Automated analysis plus human review

Notes start from automated transcript and scene analysis, then move through community reports and editorial verification. Every item shows a confidence percentage and a 'Why this was flagged' explanation.

Demo analysis — sample data only

Every title, episode, timestamp and awareness note in this prototype is fictional sample data created to demonstrate how Parents Preview works. Nothing here is a real-world verified rating, and none of it comes from a studio, streaming service, regulator or ratings board.

  • · Confidence percentages are illustrative — they do not reflect a completed human review.
  • · Flags describe what a fictional episode contains; they are not a judgment about whether content is good or bad for your family.
  • · Always check the title's official rating and your own judgment before deciding what your kids watch.
